7-day mourning for Manmohan Singh; Ex-PM's last rites on Saturday
A sixteen-year-old student, Pradip Mondal, was severely injured on Thursday morning after being bitten by a python in the Charar Badi area of Mainaguri. The incident occurred when the python entered a local villager's house. Upon hearing about the snake, a crowd gathered around the house, and members of an environmental protection organization arrived at the scene to safely capture the snake.
Mondal, eager to handle the python, attempted to grab the snake for a photo. Despite the presence of environmentalists who were working to secure the animal, Mondal tried to lift the snake, which immediately bit him on his hand. The bite caused severe damage, and blood was seen dripping from his injury.
The environmental protection team quickly intervened and managed to subdue the python. They then handed it over to the forest department for proper handling and relocation. Mondal was immediately taken to Mainaguri Hospital, where he received medical treatment for the bite. Doctors confirmed that the injury required urgent care, and his condition is being closely monitored.
The python was reported to have entered the house early in the morning, and local authorities were informed about the incident. The environmental protection team, trained in handling wildlife, arrived shortly after the snake was discovered, but the situation escalated when Mondal tried to interact with the python before it could be safely captured. The forest department has taken charge of the snake, and further action will be determined based on the animal's condition.
